Robert Vilera and Gerardo Rodriguez, percussionist and trumpeter respectively, both with multiple credits in the professional Salsa industry, recently tried out the Earthworks SR25 and SR30/HC microphones.
Rodriguez had never heard Earthworks mics before. While he compliments the ‘fatness’ of the SR25, he fell in love with what he calls ‘the aggressiveness’ of the SR30/HC.
The Earthworks SR25 is a cardioid instrument microphone designed for miking drums and electric guitars in live performance and studio recording environments. The SR25 provides a transparent sonic character with a 20Hz – 25kHz frequency response, faithfully capturing every detail along the way.
Designed for drums and guitar amps, the SR25 is also an excellent choice for a variety of other instruments such as brass, woodwinds, acoustic guitar and more.
The Earthworks SR30/HC is a multi-purpose hypercardioid condenser microphone designed for instrument miking in live performance and studio recording environments. Sonic timbre and frequency response stay uniform across the entire front of the microphone capsule, helping capture the true character of your instrument.
Its hypercardioid polar pattern is consistent across all frequencies, simplifying mic placement and ensuring more gain before feedback. With over 30dB of off-axis rejection, the SR30/HC is ideally suited for capturing audio in highly ambient environments and near monitor speakers.
With a fast transient response, the SR30/HC handles sharp attacks with ease, while still capture all of the subtle nuances and softest dynamics of your playing. With an SPL rating of 139dB, the SR30/HC delivers accurate reproduction without distortion for acoustic string instruments, brass, woodwinds, piano and drums.
