With a 60-year career backing him up, Ian Paice is one of the forefathers of modern day rock drumming. His drumming technique has shaped the ears of the RCF engineers since the very beginning, helping all the departments to understand “how to move sound” with rock music.
“Ian is an old friend of RCF and since we know he has a couple of our monitors in his personal studio it is a big satisfaction for the entire Italian company,” says Roni Nevo, president of RCF USA.
Space Truckin’, Highway Star, Hush, Fireball, and Smoke On The Water are just a few examples of the sound that would last many years to come. He has been the one and only drummer for Deep Purple since the beginning. When the group dissolved in 1976, Ian then joined David Coverdale (Deep Purple vocalist) to form Whitesnake.
After a short hiatus, Deep Purple reunited in 1984 for The Perfect Strangers release and has not stopped performing since. Ian can also be found on releases by such artists as Paul McCartney, Gary Moore, George Harrison, The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and Jim Capaldi. In April 2017, Deep Purple launched their latest album “Infinite.”
Describing his studio setup, with two RCF Mytho 8 control room monitors and an RCF AYRA sub, Ian states: “Having tried many other ‘well known’ nearfield monitors in my little studio, I have often had to resort to using my full-size built-in wall monitors to check I have the sound I want. With the RCF units coupled with an RCF subwoofer, I very rarely use the ‘big guys’ anymore. The RCF units have very accurate frequency dynamics and amazing power from such small speakers. I love them.”
The Mytho 8 is die-cast aluminum cabinet eight-inch, two-way monitor. The woofer utilizes ICC (Impedance Control Coil) technology and large voice coil for high output with tight and controlled bass reproduction. The metal dome tweeter provides sonically clear vocal reproduction.
“A studio reference monitor is the key tool for the recording engineer to transform a live sound performance,” notes RCF. With that, each loudspeaker is individually tested for accuracy. In the final production stage, “each speaker is measured and small differences in level or coloration are corrected,” with the calibration process assuring all cabinets is matching.
