Los Angeles pro audio retailer Westlake Pro has donated $10,000 through their We Stand With David campaign to David Platillero, who was severely injured last year after being struck by a distracted driver while riding his bike to class at the Blackbird Academy.
Westlake Pro’s fundraiser began after Dave Pensado and Herb Trawick, of the YouTube series Pensado’s Place, brought attention to David’s story.
Following the accident, David was left with a collapsed lung, severe spinal cord damage, numerous lacerations on his back and arm, and a fractured scapula.
Initial reports were that he may never walk again without assistance, but David has persevered and is now able to walk on his own. Thanks to assistance from fundraisers held by Pensado’s Place and Westlake Pro, David has returned to school and is well on his way down the road to recovery.
Westlake Pro held many auctions for donated products through Reverb.com, with 100% of the proceeds going directly to David to support his ongoing recovery. Generous donations from API, Apogee, Avalon, Avid, DW, Focal, Hear Technologies, IK Multimedia, MOTU, Royer, Shure, UGO,
and Ultimate Ears made this possible.
