The Institute of Production & Recording Unveils Sound Design For Visual Media Program

Students can tailor their educational experience through a large selection of elective classes.

The Institute of Production & Recording (IPR) has launched the Associate in Applied Science (AAS) in Media Arts: Sound Design for Visual Media.

One of the few degree programs of its kind in the United States, this program trains students to create the soundtracks that accompany film, TV, video games and interactive media.

“This is a great day for us,” says Campus Director Brian Jacoby, who oversees the growth and development of the school.

“We’ve been representing the audio production and music business aspects of the industry since 2007, but this program really complements our traditional offerings. We are not just an audio production and music business school anymore.”

IPR’s intention is to train students to be future sound designers and editors, Foley artists, dialog recorders and editors, post-production artists, production assistants, score mixers, and more.

“Our students have access to staff and faculty who are active in the industry,” says program chair Jeff DesLauriers.

“We’ve got a faculty member who has worked on the Star Wars video game franchise by Lucas Arts. We’ve got a program advisory committee member from Pixel Farm here in Minneapolis. This is the caliber of expertise we have to offer.”

The program can be completed in approximately two years of full-time study. Core classes cover a range of topics including studio audio engineering, desktop production, post-production, digital video editing and field, dialog and FX recording.”

“Students can tailor their educational experience through a large selection of elective classes, and can take advantage of 24/7 access to studios and labs throughout their time at IPR.”
