Malvicino Designs Mexico’s Malonic Records With Sommer Cable

New recording, mixing and mastering studio in Monterrey, Mexico with Dolby Atmos capability equipped with an interconnect backbone utilizing SC-Mistral analog/digital combo cabling.

New York City-based Malvicino Designs Group (MDG) has announced the completion of Malonic Records, a new recording, mixing and mastering studio in Monterrey, Mexico that has 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos mixing capabilities and an interconnect backbone utilizing Sommer Cable SC-Mistral analog/digital combo cabling.

MDG, headed by Horacio Malvicino, specializes in recording studio architecture, custom acoustics, and manufacturing of audio products, and has wired, integrated and commissioned more than 500 studios over the years. Malonic’s spacious live room accommodates the recording of bands and orchestral groups. Variable acoustics as well as wall and ceiling diffusion are the hallmark of the studio/live room area. All rooms were built with “a room within a room” architecture.

Nicolas Mateo is the founder and owner of the new studio alongside Pablo Garcia as chief engineer. As noted, architectural design and acoustics were by MDG under the direction of Malvicino and Fabiola Mena, with system Integration by Federico Petrone and installation by Diego Mejia for MDG. Equipment was supplied by Westlake Pro under the supervision of Stephen Banister.

The wire pairs of Sommer’s Mistral cable have a pre-twisted drain wire and another shielding made from AL/PT compound foil. For added protection against corrosion and oxidation, both the conductors and the drain wire are tinned. The returns on the cable splices are recognizable by the color-coding on the conductor pairs.

“This studio is unique and simply astounding, with great attention to detail and especially durability,” says Malvicino. “And it’s clear that Sommer Cable was a great choice for this new studio.”
