Practical Show Tech (PST) is a partnership between audio veterans and leading manufacturers who together are using this unprecedented time to produce a webcast series designed to help others grow and succeed in the audio industry.

“Audio professionals like me always complained that we didn’t have enough time to get more training, share best practices or simply connect with people in the industry,” explains Kelly Epperson, owner of Illinois-based Easy Live Audio, one of PST’s co-founders. “Well there’s no time like the present.”

Other noted industry professional behind the creation of PST include Peter Erskine, Mac Kerr, and Bruce Kraemer, focusing on topics so far that include Audio For Web Streaming as well as Best Practices Presentations for Intercom Systems by leading manufacturers such as Clear-Com, Riedel, Radio Active Designs, Telos, Unity, and others.

In addition, companies like Professional Wireless Systems, Jetwave Wireless, and CP Communications are sharing real world applications of RF technologies and their experiences on events such as the Super Bowl and the NYC Marathon. There’s also a webinar called “Lunch With Pete” (Erskine) where listeners ask questions about audio topics that have ranged from how to prep for a show to the RF show coordination processes he follows whether on tour, broadcasts or industrials.

Erskine states, “Our goal is to reach a wider audience than just audio professionals. Whether you’ve been involved in the industry for years or you’re just getting started — or, maybe you’re in another department like lighting, scenic or you’re a tech or production manager, this is a great way to use your downtime. We want to help people who are looking for a better understanding of audio and want to learn how it impacts their area of expertise.”

The response to the series has an exceptional number of extremely positive comments from the growing audience. In addition, the founders note that they’re going to expand to present a wider range of topics in the weeks to come.

:An interesting outcome of the webinar series has been the collaboration around entering a post-Covid workplace,” Epperson notes. “Through the various panel discussions, PST has been able to engage with production companies, vendors, manufacturers and the techs in the field to develop ideas around best practices for maintenance and storage of products like headsets, microphones, accessories and personal gear.”
