L-Acoustics Unveils Xi Series Coaxial Loudspeakers For Installations

L-Acoustics has announced the launch of the Xi Series, a new extension of its X Series of loudspeakers that’s comprised of two installation-focused coaxial enclosures with distinct formats, bandwidth and SPL specifically tailored for short-throw applications.

The company will have both the new X8i and X6i on hand at the 2024 ISE Show in Spain at the Fira Barcelona Gran Via at booth 7F150 (hall 7), booth 2G500 (hall 2) and demo room B4 (hall 8).

“The Xi Series represents a significant leap forward in meeting the diverse demands of premium installations,” says Germain Simon, director of product management at L-Acoustics. “The refined acoustic and physical design combines with a plethora of simple yet purposeful accessories to ensure premium professional audio can be created in any space.”

The coaxial technology allows for a compact design and is designed to foster constant tonal balance over distance, smoother coverage for off-axis audiences, eliminate the need for a minimum listening distance, and provide higher feedback rejection. The L-Vents in each enclosure are engineers to enhance low-frequency performance, while a weather-resistant IP55 rating makes the Xi Series suitable for indoor and outdoor installations.

The X6i and X8i have a streamlined aesthetic to better integrate into high-end architectural settings. The passive loudspeakers have a 1.5-inch neodymium compression driver coaxially loaded by a 6- or 8-inch low-frequency transducer in a bass reflex cabinet. The 90-degree axisymmetric directivity helps impart a smoother tonal response that’s free of secondary lobes.

Both loudspeakers can be driven by two presets, allowing them to adapt to the acoustic needs of different projects and subwoofer coupling configurations. In their native presets, optimized for vocal reinforcement or when used alongside a subwoofer, the X6i is stated to have a maximum SPL of 123 dB and a frequency response down to 69 Hz, while the X8i hass a maximum SPL of 129 dB and a frequency response down to 67 Hz. For stand-alone applications and close proximity listening, the X6i_50 preset delivers full-range sound reproduction down to 54 Hz and produces a stated maximum SPL of 117 dB, while the X8i_40 preset reaches 43 Hz, producing a maximum SPL of 123 dB.

The X6i and X8i ship in April 2024. Go here for more specifics.
