While I only got to scratch the surface of what the StudioLive Series 3 mixers are capable of, only having the single 16R to test, I really enjoyed getting to know this little box.
As a mixer, it’s capable and easy to setup & use. I’ve found it to be reliable and consistent each time I’ve powered it on. As an interface, it’s unique in offering sixteen mic inputs in a single rack space, and for a sub one thousand dollar price tag, it’s a real value. The AVB network options are even harder to believe at this price and offer great flexibility for future expansion of your system. It’s really great to see networked digital audio solutions continue to become more accessible at lower price points.
Paired with it’s bigger family members, the R series mixers can act as a stage box over an AVB network. I hope to have the opportunity to try the full mixers in the future, to explore the live sound potential, but also to try out the new DAW control mode that has folks online so excited in recent weeks.
Just recently, PreSonus announced the release of another stage box addition to the StudioLive ecosystem. Coming in two sizes, and available to pre-order now, are the NSB 8.8 and NSB 16.8. Priced at $599 and $799 at the time of this article, they are sure to be a popular add-on for anyone who owns one of the mixers.
It’s hard to believe at this price they offer dual AVB ports for chaining multiple units together, along with gain compensation for using with multiple mixers in a front of house, monitor or recording configuration. Pretty impressive stuff from the folks at PreSonus these days!
