Aviom Personal Mixers Keep Setup, Rehearsals Smooth For Live Production

Denmark's SoundCrew Live Production utilizes Aviom Personal Monitors to minimize volume and ease production setup for countless projects

For Christian Behrens, owner and engineer of SoundCrew Live Production, Aviom Personal Mixers have been the perfect solution to help minimize volume and ease production setup for countless projects—from concerts and musicals to corporate events.

Founded in 2001, SoundCrew Live Production provides sound equipment and engineering for small concerts, corporate events, amateur musicals and school functions.

When it comes to events such as church concerts and school musicals, where minimum volume on stage is crucial, SoundCrew has come to rely on Aviom, as the company’s A-16II Personal Mixers help get a clean front of house mix and keep productions running smoothly by providing users with custom monitor mixes.

“We selected the Aviom equipment because of its low- to no-latency and thanks to Moto Audio Sales, it is available in the Danish professional audio rental market,” says Behrens. “As an engineer, I have found that Aviom has contributed greatly to smoother and easier rehearsals for me. After a short introduction, each musician can be responsible for his or her own monitor mix.”

When using the Aviom system, SoundCrew utilizes a DiGiCo SD8 digital console. The system is typically set up with a grouped output for drums and direct outs for the other instruments.

Vocals and choir channels are also routed in groups and sent to outputs connected to the Aviom AN-16/i Input Module. One feature Behrens has come to appreciate is the system’s ability to be daisy chained. Also, the “Held Solo” feature is very useful when monitoring the different instruments.

What’s more, other personal mixing systems can be expensive. The Aviom system is not only less expensive but offers greater flexibility and takes up less space than competitive products.

“I always have an extra A-16II Personal Mixer set up for front of house monitoring,” adds Behrens. “When doing musicals, it is important to not make the front of house system sound as loud as a rock concert in order to limit the overall volume to an acceptable level.”

“Using Aviom, no loud stage monitoring is required and we can provide a clean front of house mix for the audience with no disturbing sounds coming from stage monitors used by musicians and performers.”
