VUE Audiotechnik Expands h-Class With New Compact h-5 Loudspeaker

Suggested applications include stage lip and underbalcony to cover hard-to-reach areas, as well as for situations where space is at a premium

VUE Audiotechnik has introduced the new h-5 compact, full-range loudspeaker, the latest member of the company’s flagship h-class family. It will be on display at the upcoming 2015 NAMM Show at the Anaheim Convention Center, booth 6464.

Suggested applications for the new h-5 include stage lip and underbalcony to cover hard-to-reach areas that are often left uncovered by the main system, as well as for other situations where space is at a premium.

“The h-5, like our larger h-Class models, is born out of our “No Compromises” design philosophy,” states VUE CEO Ken Berger. “We literally reexamined everything, from transducers, electronics, and DSP, all the way to mechanical deployment and remote management capabilities. It’s a comprehensive approach that can only be done when you start with a clean slate, and leverage the most advanced technologies available. The net result is an exceptionally capable combination of size and versatility.”

Measuring 7.6 x 18 x 11.7 inches (H x W x D) and weighing 28 pounds, the h-5 combines two precision-engineered 5-inch low-frequency transducers with a 1-inch exit compression driver outfitted with a proprietary Truextent beryllium diaphragm at its core that improves high-frequency extension and response linearity. The beryllium compression driver is mounted to a new, Mike Adams-designed precision horn with wide 120-degree by 40-degree (H x V) coverage.

The same 64-bit digital processor found in h-12 and h-15 loudspeakers is also included, providing sophisticated networking capabilities and DSP that’s programmed to address every individual element. The processor handles EQ, time alignment, crossover management, and loudspeaker protection, as well as SystemVUE network control and monitoring functions.

Dual-channel, high-efficiency amplifiers deliver power for both transducers while eliminating the need for noisy cooling fans. A lightweight, fully protected, switch-mode power supply with auto voltage detection provides worldwide operation with universal mains operation from 85 to 260 volts.

The drivers and electronics are housed in a robust birch enclosure that includes integrated M10 hanging points, and optional yoke mount and rigging hardware make easy deployment as a main system, on lighting grids, or in a variety of support configurations.

The grille is coated with a 2-part, polyurethane finish that lays a transparent candy-apple red coating over a base coat of black. The durable finish offers a deep red hue that’s attractive while remaining unobtrusive. The heavy aluminum rear panel is both functional and visually impactful, with the “VUE” logo machined directly into the heat-sink fins. All h-Class enclosures are manufactured to the strictest ISO standards, using multi-ply, cross-grain laminated birch with extensive interior bracing for resonant-free output.

“The h-5 delivers a much better balance of output, clarity and frequency response than any other loudspeaker in its category,” says VUE Audiotechnik EVP Jim Sides. “We’re extremely excited to offer customers a true high-performance alternative for applications such as theaters, houses of worship, front fill and under-balcony systems, portable and installed AV systems, corporate AV, or anyplace where space and sight lines are critical.”

Also at 2015 NAMM, note that the NAMM Center Stage (located between Hall B & C), featuring a range of live performances, will be outfitted with VUE al-4 sub-compact line arrays, hs-28 subwoofers and the newly introduced hm-112 and hm-212 floor monitors.
