Velmalicious Invests In New BASSBOSS Rig

Southern California-based DJ, MC and production company owner adds SV9 active full-range loudspeakers joined by companion BB15 subwoofers following demonstration.

Lily Tran, a.k.a. Velmalicious, a DJ and MC based out of San Jose, California who’s also the founder of Angels of Sound, a production and entertainment company, recently added BASSBOSS loudspeakers and subwoofers to her inventory.

“We were in the market to add another set of speakers, with a budget of around $2,000,” explains her husband and self-proclaimed “weekend roadie,” Mark Sebastian, and the duo ventured to the local Guitar Center to check out options. “We noticed the BASSBOSS BB15 — it was smaller than her usual sub, but had a more premium price.”

Tran and Sebastian eventually returned to Guitar Center to test out the sub first-hand. “It not only exceeded our expectations, it also exceeded the expectations of the Guitar Center staff,” Sebastian says, with Tran observed that a store employee came in from another room to point out that the shelves were rattling and some signage had fallen from the walls.

While there, they also decided to try out the a matching BASSBOSS SV9 single 9-inch powered top to go with it. “We were so impressed by the clarity,” Sebastian states. “It was a whole other class of sound, compared to the speakers we originally intended to buy. It was also an even more compact and light form factor.”

“The sound was so balanced and so clear,” adds Tran. “It reminded me of the first time I put on a pair of high-end headphones. It’s like being transported into the music.” As Tran stepped back, she noticed how there was no degradation in quality. “That’s what really sold me on the system – how well the sound traveled,” she noted. “From the low end to the high end, everything sounds clear.”

They decided invest in two BB15 subwoofers and a pair of SV9 active tops. “The lightweight form factor makes a huge difference for me,” notes Tran. “Especially if I’m on a solo gig with no help — I can manage to carry all the gear on my own.”

“It was more than we originally planned to spend on an upgrade, but we were so excited about the demo that we knew it was worth it,” Sebastian says. “On top of that, all the interactions with BASSBOSS staff have been very positive and we couldn’t wait to ring everything out at her first gig.”

Tran had an opportunity to live test the system at a recent Miss Vietnam of Northern California pageant. “We kept the levels very low, but the manager of the venue still received a complaint from four stories below and told us to turn it down,” Tran concludes. “I said to myself: That’s a good sign!”
