The Phunky Monkeys Go “All In” With Danley Sound Labs

Popular New Orleans-based cover band has employed a range of Danley gear since 2015, such as SM80 loudspeakers, to deliver more personalized performances tailored to specific venues and audiences.

Popular New Orleans-based cover band The Phunky Monkeys has returned to a busy live performance schedule following the pause caused by the pandemic, and they’re supported by a range of Danley Sound Labs gear under the direction of Eric Breaux, the band’s audio technician and producer.

“While things picked up in 2021, it’s exciting to see the volume of events we already have scheduled for 2022,” Breaux says. “Compared to last year, we’re already booked almost every Saturday through June, where last year things didn’t pick up until late summer.”

The band has been utilizing Danley equipment since 2015 in delivering a more personalized performances tailored to the specific venue and audience. “At one concert with 800 people up front, we used four TH118XL subwoofers coupled in the middle on dedicated channels,” Breaux notes. “We used two SM80 loudspeakers for our highs and mids and it was amazing how good the sound was. Based on our needs and the venues in which we perform, we’ll probably double our current Danley gear list once the pandemic is over and start performing again at a normal pace.”

“The first time we used Danley was the first time we had a completely silent stage,” he adds. “It was awesome. The sound quality is unmatched – Danley products allow me to hear things in music I didn’t even know existed.”

“The Phunky Monkeys are a great example of how Danley products fit any need,” says Kim Comeaux, western regional sales manager for the company. “With our European partners, a lot of event venues, restaurants, music festivals and bands are utilizing Danley products to create extraordinary listening experiences. Here in the United States, we are seeing a marked increase of production companies and groups like the Phunky Monkeys choosing Danley.”

“Outside of the United States, one of the driving factors has been the efficiency of our equipment,” notes Skip Welch, the company’s director of sales and marketing. “We’re constantly told how efficient our gear is compared to our competition. I think that also suits the needs of the Phunky Monkeys.”

“In New Orleans, beyond the amazing sound, one of the other benefits of Danley is their power efficiency,” Breaux concludes. “We have a lot of power grid issues here requiring us to have battery backups on everything. But because of power efficiency of their amps, it’s amazing how long those battery backups can last – or even a generator – when needed. Prior to Danley, we were bringing in huge boxes and draining a lot of power. Now, we user fewer boxes, better amps and the band sounds amazing at every performance.”
