TASCAM Announces New CD-RW900SX CD Recorder/Player

Designed to provide functionality suited for a range of applications that include studio and broadcast as well commercial playback in restaurants, clubs, and similar venues.

TASCAM has announced the debut of the CD-RW900SX CD recorder/player designed for a range of applications that include studio and broadcast as well commercial playback in restaurants, clubs, and similar venues.

In addition to providing analog input gain controls for the left and right analog inputs, the CD-RW900SX also offers trim control for the digital input, enabling users to set the optimal recording levels from a digital source. It also has a variety of track division functions designed to make recording easier, including Automatic Track Division, whereby a track marker can be created based on the input level to effectively add a new track when the input falls below a specified level that can be defined within a range from –24 to –72 dB.

Further, a rec-mute function can insert silence between tracks. The unit’s Time Track Division function enables time-based track creation to be set every 1-10 minutes, useful for conference recording or similar cases when there is no gap between segments, such as when recording music. The CD-RW900SX also offers Manual Track Division, whereby a new track can be written manually by pressing the Record key while the unit is in record mode.

For playback, the unit offers auto-cue, auto-ready, pitch control, repeat, playback, and power-on playback capabilities. Power-on playback can be useful for environments such as restaurants and clubs, effectively enabling the CD-RW900SX to be cued up and automatically start playback the moment the power is enabled. It also offers transport control via a P/S2 keyboard (sold separately).

The CD/CDRW drive in the new CD-RW900SX provides a stable platter that is designed to minimize errors while writing to the disc. Track markers can be embedded without a gap to help produce seamless continuous live recordings. In the rare event that the disc should become locked in the drive, there is an included emergency hole in slot so that a pin or paperclip can eject the disc.

Supported media includes CD, CD-R, CD-R-DA, CD-RW, CD-RW-DA for recording and CD-DA and Data-CD for playback. In addition, it offers shockproof memory that prevents skipping due to vibration. The unit incorporates a RAM buffer that stores audio data in memory to help ensure smooth playback, even if shock or vibration lasts for upwards of four seconds. Unbalanced analog and S/PDIF coaxial and optical connections are provided.

In addition, the CD-RW900SX provides for Fade-in/Fade-out recording ranging from 1 to 30 seconds in 1-second increments, a sync recording function that automatically starts/stops recording at a preset level spanning a range of –24 dB to –72 dB in 6 dB increments, digital level adjustment, a key control playback function and more. The 2U EIA rack-mountable, RoHS-certified device also includes a 10-key remote control.

The new CD-RW900SX CD Recorder/Player is expected to become available Q3, 2022.
