Sensaphonics President Michael Santucci To Address World Health Organization Conference

Speaking at WHO-ITU Joint Stakeholders' Consultation on Safe Listening Devices in Geneva in October

Dr. Michael Santucci, founder and president of Sensaphonics, has been invited to address an upcoming World Health Organization (WHO) global conference on hearing health, specifically the WHO-ITU Joint Stakeholders’ Consultation on Safe Listening Devices to be held in Geneva, Switzerland on October 1-2, 2015.

Part of the WHO “Make Listening Safe” initiative (more here), the event is a joint effort of WHO and International Telecommunications Union (ITU), which are both United Nations agencies.

According to the WHO, an estimated 1.1 billion young people are at risk of early hearing loss. The conference will examine a wide range of perspectives on best practices and technology to promote safe listening, and will explore mechanisms and technology to reduce exposure to unsafe sound levels in personal audio devices.

Attendees include researchers, audiologists, sound engineers, manufacturers of personal devices, earphones, and headphones, and civil society organizations.

“I’m thrilled to attend this conference, and honored to be invited to speak to this select group of stakeholders in the area of safe listening practices and technology,” says Santucci. “Having the opportunity to share my perspective and experience in hearing loss prevention on a global stage is another career highlight for me.”

Sensaphonics designs and manufactures custom in-ear monitors and hearing protection devices for the music industry. WHO focuses on international public health issues, while the ITU is concerned with issues related to information and communication technologies. Both U.N. agencies are headquartered in Geneva.
