Sabine Announces New SACOM Digital Wireless Microphone Systems

The new DS8000 provides mission-critical audio quality, redundancy, and encryption.

Sabine has announced an expansion in its line of digital wireless microphones.

The new SACOM DS Series includes conference-room features like military encryption, docking station, high channel counts, GPIO, and also fulfills the specifications of the most demanding audio situations – what Sabine is calling “Mission-Critical AudioTM.”

SACOM is a complete line of digital wireless microphone components that deliver compander free audio quality and reliability not possible with standard FM technology.

“We looked at the market and saw a clear need for wireless systems that takes wireless microphones to the next level,” states Doran Oster, President of Sabine. “Mission-Critical AudioTM means the system absolutely has to work in the most demanding environments.”

“We did not stop there,” continues Oster. “Our feature list includes US government approved encryption, user-programmable redundancy for all transmitters and receivers, and customizable web or text status messaging.”

SACOM systems include rechargeable batteries and a custom docking station. Up to 8 true-diversity receiver modules fit into a 1-U rack, that includes a built-in antenna distribution system, mixed audio outputs, and optional digital audio.

For control and connectivity SACOM provides Ethernet, USB, AES/EBU, Word Clock, and RS232/GPIO contact closures.

“We see many applications that have a clear need for these mission-critical systems,” says Oster. “One obvious category is the corporate/government/military market. SACOM provides the flexibility, reliability, and security that is crucial on these applications.”

That flexibility is achieved through an offering of four transmitter configurations (bodypack, handheld, tabletop conference, and gooseneck conference), multi-channel modular receivers, 8-bay charging stations (included with each receiver) that accommodate a variety of transmitters, optional transmitter power supplies for fixed installations, and quick-change receiver modules.

SACOM Remote Control provides the command and control for these systems, including these functions:

• Scan and set clear RF channels
• View and control all system functions
• Control system redundancy: set multiple transmitters per receiver, or multiple receivers per transmitter
• Send email or text message low-battery alerts and system faults to user assigned locations
• Password protection
• Hub-free: receivers have independent IP addresses
• Network up to 64 channels

SACOM7 bodypack transmitters are smaller than a pack of cigarettes making them one of the smallest in the industry. The OLED display is highly readable, the antennas are field replaceable, and an IR link is included for setting channels automatically from the receivers.

All transmitters are designed to operate with standard AA, NiMH rechargeable or alkaline batteries, and the charging system includes an 8-bay docking station standard with every receiver.

Batteries can be charged between 500 -1000 times, yielding a significant savings over the cost of using conventional throw-away batteries.

Remote antennas are also available, and users can create multi-channel antenna distribution on the fly. Because each receiver includes distribution, no extra distribution amplifiers are required.

SACOM systems are for use in all wireless microphone applications, including conference rooms, courtrooms, theater and concert performances, live sound for bands, church sound, and educational applications including classrooms, gyms, and auditoriums.
