MLS Audio Adds To Rental Stock With Large-Format VHD System From KV2 Audio

New inventory represents the sound company's continuing evolution with the KV2 line.

Portsmouth, England-based MLS Audio recently invested in a large-format VHD System from KV2 Audio, with MLS director Guy Morris deciding to add VHD2.0 main and VHD 1.0 down fill enclosures as well as VHD 2.16 dual 15-inch subwoofers and VHD 4.21 ultra-low frequency active/passive dual 21-inch subwoofers..

“My first introduction to KV2 was purely by accident,” Morris recalls. “I had gone to my local audio supplier for a quick chat and should have known when they brought out the coffee and biscuits that they had something to show off. In their demo area was a selection of KV2’s active EX range – the EX 6, EX 10 and EX 2.2. The EX 6 and EX 10 were first demoed, with the EX 2.2 subwoofer added in later.

“As an existing owner of another premium German brand I was absolutely not in the market for anything else – but of course that was until I heard it,” he continues. “It was immediately apparent that what I was hearing was a very different listening experience.”

As time progressed, MLS’s requirements developed to the point where EX products proved to be a consistent solution. “As luck would have it, I had begun getting a number of events where the use of amp racks was not very practical – specifically, recurring events on a ‘super yacht’ with high-profile artists – so a compact, high-quality active system appeared to be an attractive solution,” he says.

Fast-forward a few years and Morris decided to revisit KV2’s product range to see if a system existed that would deliver the same result at the festival level, looking at KV2’s VHD and ESR systems. “I was able to hear both VHD and ESR2.15 systems at demo day at a local theatre where KV2 was already installed,” he recounts, “and of course I then did all my research. Everything on paper made sense but I wanted to experience the systems in the ‘real-world’ so KV2 arranged for me to hear the ESR2.15’s on a touring theatre production. The results achieved in a venue I knew well were so impressive that my order for an ESR2.15 system was placed in the same week.”

The VHD System is another step up. Morris was in attendance at another KV2 demo day, this one highlighting the VHD System in a field with space enough to listen to a single main (one mid/hi per side) from more than 200 meters away. Based on that experience, Morris committed to a live trial of a VHD System at the Blues and Rock Festival in Surrey.

“It became obvious pretty quickly that the VHD System could deliver both level and frequency in an exceptional way and it was getting nods of approval from the visiting band engineers using it, he says. “The mix of bands – from a full-on Geno Washington to The Swinging Blue Jeans and SLADE – gave plenty of variety at the mix position to put it through its paces and it did not disappoint.”
