Martin Audio Supports Tedeschi Trucks As North Carolina’s Greenfield Lake Amphitheater Reopens

RMB Audio deploys MLA Compact arrays to “hard avoid” a structure notorious for causing slapback in the first event at the 1,200-seat venue in over a year.

Shuttered since March 2020, Greenfield Lake Amphitheater in Wilmington, NC enjoyed an exciting reopening in late June with a performance by Florida-based blues-rockers Tedeschi Trucks Band supported by Raleigh-based RMB Audio deploying Martin Audio MLA Compact line arrays to deliver the coverage.

MLA Compact was selected by the artists themselves for its control technology, offering the capability to help avoid slapback from the highly reflective building fascia behind the front of house mix position. The 1,200-capacity venue’s seating rises 11.6 feet above the stage, while at a distance of 95 feet is the cinema booth that’s situated directly behind the audio engineer. Reflections from behind generally impair the engineer’s assessment of the mix.

Martin Audio’s DISPLAY predictive software was employed from the stage position, the audience start and elevation to the mix position in order to “hard avoid” the cinema booth. RMB Audio owner Cooper Cannady explains that there was no means to fly the cabinets — only wing or ground stack. Thus, six MLA Compact elements were ground stacked on 5-foot-high decks, positioned on the stage wings.

In addition, six DSX subwoofers were set in a broadside time aligned arc behind the barricade for the audience. Further Martin Audio DD12 networkable cabinets were applied as in fills (and a single DD12 for the out fill area).

The venue was fully sold out, with facility manager Jenny Dubois expressing her delight at finally having returned to live entertainment in front of a grateful audience.
