The Las Vegas Review-Journal recently opened a new A/V production studio equipped with an Allen & Heath Qu-16 Chrome Edition digital mixer.
As the largest circulating daily newspaper in Nevada, the Review-Journal has a digital edition with mobile apps and an extensive website and uses the new studio to create audio and video programming for sports, business and entertainment news and special events coverage.
Jim Prather, digital video consultant for the Review-Journal, describes the new studio’s A/V requirements, “We needed quality gear that would allow us to record podcasts, longer form shows and Skype elements and give us the ability to go on the road when required. The system needed to be very reliable and easy to use so we could quickly train our staff.” 
EAR Professional of Phoenix, AZ designed and installed the studio’s A/V systems around those requirements. EAR’s Isaac Newman chose custom A/V carts built by BigFoot Mobile Systems of Vacaville, CA with one cart for video and a second cart for audio that includes wireless microphone receivers and the Allen & Heath Qu-16.
“I recommended the Qu-16,” says Newman. “Even with its 16 faders the Qu-16 fit perfectly into the BigFoot system. It was flexible enough for all of the different kinds of work they do yet simple to operate. And, it has that nice ‘British EQ’, and sounds great so this was one of those no-brainers for me.” Prather added, “The Qu-16 is very user friendly and it met our goals at a reasonable price.”
