Houston’s Rice University Outfitted With d&b audiotechnik

Austin-based Big House Sound recently completed the installation and commissioning of a new audio system at the Rice Owls Football Stadium in Houston, Texas with loudspeakers from d&b audiotechnik.

The audio system is part of Rice University’s new sports facility project that includes a 580 square foot video display and broadcast cabling system designed by John Miller at the Technical Design Group.

“This new audio and video platform is a game-changer for our fans,” Rice director of athletics, Joe Karlgaard says. “It represents a quantum leap forward in the fan experience at Rice Stadium, placing Rice at the forefront of the latest innovations in fan engagement from both a visual and audio standpoint as well as our overall video production capabilities. Our fans have been passionate about the need to dramatically upgrade these areas and we believe this installation is the kind of cutting-edge leap forward one associates with Rice University.”

The audio system features twenty d&b audiotechnik J8 line array loudspeakers and eight V8 line array loudspeakers – all powered by d&b’s newest technology in their 30D amplifiers. All audio routing throughout the stadium is distributed via QSC’s QSYS networked audio system and links directly to the audio broadcast system and other Rice campus facilities.

“We are very pleased with the performance of the new audio system,” says Zach Richards, director of installations at Big House. “The system really provides a nice clean, clear and intelligible sound throughout the stadium which will help fans connect to game.”

The systems were completed prior to the beginning of the 2016 college football season and Rice’s first home game against Baylor on September 16th.
