AWE Bar, the newest live music bar and restaurant in Old Town Yucca Valley, CA, is equipped with a house sound reinforcement system utilizing a variety of microphones from Heil Sound joining components that include Meyer Sound loudspeakers as well as a Midas digital console.
Clark Fyans, the venue’s director, notes, “At the AWE, we are trying to build a community of like-minded folks who love music and who ‘get it’ when it comes to production. Earlier in the year Mike Campbell & The Dirty Knobs shot a video here for their ‘Wicked’ single. Our lineup of performers is growing fast and the Heil Sound relationship fits the AWE Bar well.”
The specific microphone package includes including PR 37, PR 31BW and PR 40 dynamic models working with Meyer Sound ULTRA-X40 powered loudspeakers as mains and 1000-LFC low-frequency cabinets joined by a Midas X32 console. These components work within an environment that one publication described this way: “The warm wood framing of the room looks like the inside of an acoustic guitar, and the curves of its wave-shaped ceiling reflects sound energy and gradually changing angles, breaking up the floor-to-ceiling reflection that give square rooms a boxy tone. The cork-backed acoustically damped flooring helps absorb these ‘standing waves’ as well.”
Luke Dawson, who with Pat “Hutch” Hutchinson and Tygh Runyan mixes sound at AWE Bar, concludes, “I immediately noticed a difference when we tried the Heil mics, especially with the PR 37s on vocals. In fact, early on, one of our artists asked at sound check what mic we were using, commenting on the good sound through his monitors.”
