Funktion-One Launches Evo X Wide Dispersion Loudspeaker

Completely horn-loaded loudspeaker utilizes company's latest waveguide technology in providing 90-degree horizontal dispersion and stated high SPL for applications that include live venues, small clubs and theatres.

Funktion-One has announced the introduction of Evo X, a new, completely horn-loaded loudspeaker utilizing the company’s latest waveguide technology in providing 90-degree horizontal dispersion and stated high SPL for applications that include live venues, small clubs and theatres.

Housed in a compact package, Evo X can be deployed as a one per side or four-point system. Its focused 15-degree vertical dispersion is designed to ensure the sound is concentrated on the audience, minimizing reflections and room excitement.

Funktion-One founder Tony Andrews comments, “We’ve had a 90-degree full-range loudspeaker on our radar for a while now, but it was the development of Vero VX that paved the way for Evo X. It’s an impressive piece of loudspeaker technology, which can be deployed in all kinds of environments. As part of its field testing, we’ve had a pair in Esher Theatre. I’ve heard a 16-piece big band through that system; the level of detail, separation and the stereo image were remarkable considering the complexity of the signal.”

Esher Theatre’s Charlie Swift adds, “For us, the key point is the live experience you can’t get anywhere else. The Funktion-One sound leaves a lasting impression with the audience. I’ve never heard a system that presents every single instrument so clearly.”

Incorporating the same isophase diffraction high-frequency waveguide technology as Vero VX, Evo X has a stated frequency response of 50 Hz to 18 kHz and is designed to optimally combine with Funktion-One F Series and BR Range bass loudspeakers for increased low-frequency energy. A wide-bandwidth 8-inch midrange extends to 5 kHz, minimizing stress on the 1-inch high-frequency driver while the 15-inch mid-bass handles 50 Hz to 280 Hz.

Andrews explains, “The 1-inch driver is actually inside the Axhead. The challenge there was to keep the vertical dispersion narrow but still go the full height of the mid-range device. That’s where the isophase diffraction waveguide comes in.

“It’s all natural,” he continues. “There’s no onboard EQ required. I’m really pleased with it. It feels like a really good place to have got to after all these years.”

Evo X weighs just over 100 pounds (47 kg), measures 33.8 x 23.7 x 21.2 inches (859 x 604 x and 540 mm, HxWxD) and is available with a custom wheel board that cradles the loudspeaker’s curved front. It is available now in a range of colors and finishes through Funktion-One’s global network of distributors and dealers.
