Focal has announced that it is shipping the new Alpha 80 Evo and Alpha Twin Evo powered monitors as well as the Sub One subwoofer that’s designed to pair with both the Alpha Evo and Shape monitor lines.
Alpha 80 Evo and Alpha Twin Evo join Alpha 50 Evo and Alpha 65 Evo, released last year, in completing the monitor series. All incorporate woofers with proprietary Slatefiber cones, made by Focal in France from recycled carbon fiber, as well as laminar ports. Alpha 80 Evo has a single 8-inch woofer while the Alpha Twin Evo has dual 6.5-inch woofers, and both have a 1-inch aluminum inverted-dome tweeter.
Both new Alpha Evo models have a new 1/4-inch (6.35 mm) TRS jack input, a user dis-engageable automatic standby power mode, and on Alpha 80 Evo, inserts for wall and ceiling mounting. They’re equipped with two class D amplifiers with high-current capacity that’s designed to allow full control of signal dynamics while attaining high volumes without distortion.
In addition, both models have 5/8-inch thick (15 mm) MDF cabinets with internal braces intended to ensure minimal vibration. The bass-reflex design, with a new larger cabinet vent, has been created to ensure easier acoustic integration, even in cramped studio spaces.
Meanwhile, the new Sub One has a stated 200-watt (RMS) amplifier and is designed to partner with both the Alpha Evo and Shape lines for a 2.1 system in addition to multi-monitor immersive systems. It carries two aligned double-skinned Slatefiber 8-inch cone woofers that provide added rigidity joined by front-firing ports.
These new Focal products are available for order through retailers in the U.S. and Canada in February 2022. Suggested MSRP: Alpha 80 Evo — $549; Alpha Twin Evo — $659; and Sub One — $999 (all prices USD). North American distributor Focal Naim America can be reached here.
