GRAMMY winning Engineer Mike Shipley has recently adopted the UAD-2 DSP Accelerator Card and UAD Powered Plug-ins.
Shipley has worked with Producer Mutt Lange for over two decades, and together they have crafted multi-platinum records for Shania Twain, Def Leppard, Allison Kraus and currently Maroon 5.
Whether mixing on an SSL J console or mixing in the box Shipley now relies heavily on the UAD-2 and UAD Powered Plug-ins to achieve the desired sound.
Said Shipley, “I’m tracking this Allison Kraus record right now. We’ve got it all set up so that when I’m working purely digital, I have all the UAD plugs that I like and swear by, up and ready. It works out great, and is equally as good sounding.”
“I love the 1081s, the Neve EQs. They’re fantastic. In fact, in the room next door, there’s a beautiful, beautiful Neve where we cut the vocals. I really liked the presence of that board, the sound of those Neves, so to me, the UAD emulations of the Neve stuff are exceptional, because I can get that same top end. So clean and sweet.”
“I love the effects. I’ve been trying to find a real Dimension D for a long, long time. Back in England, we used to put almost everything in the mix through Dimension D.”
“It’s the most amazing box. But now I’ve got one — a UAD version. I use it all the time. We’ve [also] been using the [the UAD emulation of the Roland] Space Echo on the new Maroon 5 single, Misery. Oh, and there’s the FATSOs…. All the UA stuff is just outstanding.”
