Earthworks FlexMics Capture Beatification Ceremony Conducted By Pope Francis In South Korea

Earthworks FlexMic podium microphones were recently used in a Beatification Ceremony conducted by Pope Francis in Seoul, South Korea.

The ceremony was held at Gwanghwamun Square in central Seoul, with nearly 1 million people in attendance and 20 percent of South Korea’s population tuning in to watch the historic event on television.

Sung Jun Park, director of engineering for Art Mix, selected six FMR500/HC 19-inch Earthworks podium microphones for the ceremony. “The sensitivity and dynamic range are good,” he states. “Additionally, their gain before feedback is definitely superior to the other microphones.”

Park also notes the response of the ceremony’s organizers to the sound quality the FMR500/HCs was quite positive. “The Vatican was satisfied, since the FMR500/HCs have a high-quality sound.”

The FMR500/HCs also provided aesthetic benefits for an event being broadcast on television. “The microphone’s head is small. So, it did not hide the Pope’s face,” Park says.

The six FMR500/HC podium mics fed a main sound reinforcement system headed by J-Series and Q Series loudspeakers from d&b audiotechnik and a DiGiCo SD8 console.
