The venue has utilized Clear-Com products for decades, and most recently implemented more than a dozen new FreeSpeak II wireless beltpacks.

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. recently transitioned to the Clear-Com FreeSpeak II wireless platform in an upgrade of its crew communications infrastructure.

The center has utilized Clear-Com products for decades, including Encore and HelixNet components. Michael Buchman, the current crew chief of the Concert Hall, the facility’s largest venue, has been witness to this evolution firsthand.

“FreeSpeak has truly enhanced my quality of life,” Buchman says. “Its wireless and discreet design seamlessly integrates with my formal attire, ensuring I maintain a polished appearance during these prestigious events. The freedom from cumbersome wires elevates my professionalism while also allowing me to focus on delivering flawless productions.”

The recent installation of over a dozen FreeSpeak II beltpacks in the Concert Hall has enhanced communication capabilities. Further, across the entire venue, there are approximately 95 beltpacks in operation.

Buchman adds, “At the Kennedy Center Concert Hall, where versatility is paramount, Clear-Com’s communication solutions have been indispensable. The transition to Clear-Com’s FreeSpeak II wireless communication system has revolutionized our workflow. The ability to move freely without being tethered by wires during performances has significantly enhanced our efficiency and overall experience.”

“The Kennedy Center’s adoption of Clear-Com products underscores our commitment to delivering innovative solutions that empower production professionals to excel,” adds Paul Morini, regional sales manager at Clear-Com. “We are proud to support the Kennedy Center in its mission to inspire and enrich audiences through the power of the performing arts.”

FreeSpeak II operates on both the 1.9 GHz and 2.4 GHz bands, and with the ability to support up to 20 full-duplex wireless beltpacks in stand-alone mode and up to 50 beltpacks in an integrated Eclipse HX® matrix setup, it offers scalability to accommodate productions of varying size and complexity.
