Bartlett Microphones Unveils New Clip-On Instrument Microphones

New additions include the Spark and Fiddle Mic.

Bartlett Microphones has introduced four new condenser mics for acoustic instruments. These clip-on mics provide a natural sound for recording or PA.

The Bartlett Fiddle Mic is specially voiced for the fiddle or violin, while the Spark Mic is intended for everything else – acoustic guitar, mandolin, banjo, upright bass, dulcimer, and so on. Both mics are small enough to fit inside an instrument case.

The Spark Mic and Fiddle Mic come with an 8-foot XLR cable, while the Spark Mic Pro and Fiddle Mic Pro include a mountable jack and detachable XLR cable.

“In designing these microphones,” says owner/engineer Bruce Bartlett, “we wanted to convey the beautiful timbre of a musician’s instrument accurately to the audience. We also wanted the mounting to be easy and reliable.”

The frequency response of the fiddle mic is 200 Hz to 20 kHz with an intentional high-frequency rolloff to smooth the sound, while the Spark mic is +/- 2 dB from 40 Hz to 20 kHz. Both are omnidirectional condenser types which require phantom power.

Mounting devices are available separately on the Bartlett Microphones website. They include a guitar mount, mic clip, fine-tuner mount, and mounting putty. Clear diagrams supplied with the mics show several effective mic placements on a variety of acoustic instruments.
