Audent Mixing Console Installed Where Lightning Strikes Twice

Angry Chair Studios owner Paul Interlande takes pride in blending old school with new engineering techniques while he draws on experience as both a studio and live FOH engineer

Audient’s ASP8024 high resolution mixing console has been installed at Angry Chair Studios, a project studio catering to local talent in Turners Falls, MA.

The success of Staind, Shadows Fall, Kill Switch Engage and All That Remains, who originate from the same district, is fueling and inspiring the music scene in the area, bringing in more recording bands to the recently upgraded studio.

Studio owner Paul Interlande thoroughly researched his options before the purchase. “I am definitely ‘old school’, so I wanted an analog desk with great features and a great sound,” he explains.

“The ASP8024 fell neatly into all these categories, as well as coming well within budget.

“The desk is a joy. It seems with every new project I discover another useful feature to conquer problematic scenarios,” he continues.

“Having 14 auxes enables me to hardwire the most used FX and create five hardwired headphone mixes; four mono and one full stereo, so very handy.

“Set up time alone is cut down, I can be up and tracking or mixing more quickly.

“The EQ section and mic pres are very musical and the board’s layout is ergonomically smart, too.”

Describing Angry Chair Studios as a “…small but mighty recording studio”, Interlande prides himself in being a true veteran of the area’s music scene of some 30 years. Blending old school with new engineering techniques, he draws on experience as both a studio and live FOH engineer.

“I’m the local go-to guy, I nurture up-and-coming artists through the recording process,” explains Interlande, who also works with veteran artists in the valley area, about 100 miles west of Boston.

The studio’s upgrade was a consequence of unfortunate circumstances.

“My property was struck by lightning twice last year and I lost a lot of electronics as a result – my last console was one of the victims.” Interlande explains, looking on the bright side. “The gods taketh away and then gave back! The ASP8024 has been a dream to mix on. The whole console sounds sweet.”

The desk was sold by Odyssey Pro Sound in Salem MA.
