Arturia has announced the release of Filter MS-20, a new plugin designed to extract the sonic character from instruments with an “edgy” sound championed by The Chemical Brothers, Aphex Twin, Daft Punk and others, and distill it into an enhanced effect for more creative mixing and sound exploration.
It’s available for free download from now through Monday, January 2, 2023, when it will return to a full price of 99€/$. Go here to download.
Filter MS-20 lets users modulate and animate its virtual circuitry, re-route its filter and distortion sections, and dramatically wident the stereo width of any sound via its feature set. Sounds can be “energized” quickly with a knob-per-function interface and macro-style controls for quick sweeping changes.
It also comes with a library of dozens of mix-ready presets, among them:
— Kick Absurd Saturation, a heavy 808-style kick obliterated by distortion and filter movement
— Pad Slow Stereo Movement, FM-style pad harmonics spun around the stereo field and subtly shaped with resonant filter sweeps
— Guitar 7 Ping, soft vowel-like chord stabs transformed into rusty mechanized rhythms with locked-in stereo movement and distorted degradation
— Drums Beefy 16th, an otherwise simple drum-kit loop is accelerated into pulsing 16-note momentum, with a touch of distortion in the low end.
