Pro Sound & Communications of Bellingham, Washington recently upgraded the sound reinforcement system at the Carver Gymnasium on the campus of Western Washington University (WWU), also in Bellingham. Designed by Thom Mullins of BRC Acoustics Consulting, the upgraded system is headlined by a wide range of Electro-Voice components.
Carver Gymnasium is used for many different applications, including athletic events, lectures, and graduation ceremonies, and depending on the occasion, it can seat anywhere from 4,000 to 7,500 people.
The venue’s existing system was being stretched to its limits by its myriad applications, so WWU worked with BRC Acoustics and Pro Sound on a new audio solution that could effectively augment its existing system. Both Thom Mullins and Daryl Lazarescu of Pro Sound and Communications decided that Electro-Voice products would provide an ideal solution for the venue.
To extend Carver’s existing system, Mullins designed a cluster of four EV FRX+640 loudspeakers, mounted at the center of the room above the basketball court and powered by EV CP4000S and CP2200 amplifiers.
The gym’s center cluster also includes two EV FRX+181s powered by CP4000S amps, and is rounded out by three FRi+122 loudspeakers powered by CP2200s.
The new system also includes FRi+122s (also powered by CP2200s) for delay speakers. WWU has received nothing but compliments for their gym’s new sound. Lazarescu comments: “The school loves their new system. They are very happy with both its sound quality and ease of use. They just turn it on and it works reliably for them every time.”
