Solid State Logic has announced the launch of the new 4K E Channel Strip plugin, a new software emulation of the company’s 4000E console that’s available in several formats, including VST2, VST3, AAX Native and AU as part of the SSL Complete subscription, and until November 28 as part of the “Complete Access” bundle that also includes the Slate Digital “All Access Pass.”

Released in 1979, the 4000E console played a role in helping to reshape the way music was made, popular on the studio landscape through the 1980s and 90s. It was noted for a punchy sound, advanced processing tools and flexibility. However, it has become a rare sight in studios of today. As this analogue icon enters the record production history books,

Solid State Logic has modeled the console’s sonic character and workflow down to a component level — including the E Series EQ in all its flavors (Black, Brown, Orange), and an emulation of the Jensen T-115K-E transformer found on early 4000E mic preamps — to capture its legacy in plugin form. The dbx 202 “gold can” fader VCA is also modeled, offering multiple layers of harmonic saturation found throughout the circuit design.

As with Channel Strip 2 and 4K B, the 4K E plunin integraters with SSL’s UC1 controller, offering knob-per-function control in a channel strip style layout. In addition, SSL 360’s “Plug-in Mixer” available free from the company website, provides users with a single place to view and control all 360-enabled plugins to allow them to build their own “virtual” E Series console or combine 4K B with Channel Strip 2 and 4K E for a “custom” virtual SSL console.

The new 4K E plugin is also available on perpetual purchase and Rent To Own via the SSL eStore. Go here for more specifics.
