With a mission to serve its community and surrounding colleges, the Doxa Church in Madison, Wisconsin recently celebrated its formal opening services using an Allen & Heath dLive C Class C2500 surface with DM0 MixRack, three DX168 Expanders and an array of ME-1 personal mixers.
Doxa is a portable church which holds its Sunday worship in a hotel ballroom and becomes “The Salt Company” on Thursday evenings offering worship at the University of Madison campus. Steve Westrum, lead tech for the church, says, “The DM0 MixRack and three DX168 Expanders make the system scalable to the venue and the band for any given service.”
A Dante card in the 20-fader C2500 surface enables Shure wireless microphone integration. Four 40-source ME-1 personal mixers provide fully customizable monitoring for the band. A DX168 Expander at front of house feeds a wireless in-ear system for vocalists and two DX168s offer ample I/O access on the stage.
Westrum manages mics and recorded sources with dLive layers and assignable SoftKeys and makes extensive use of the dLive’s internal DEEP reverbs and compressors.
He also records HD video and submixed audio of each service to a Blackmagic HyperDeck Studio Mini for uploading to the church’s website.
Doxa Church is a recent plant from the Ames, Iowa based “Salt Network” which acts as systems integrator for its churches.
Westrum, who is Business Development supervisor for Allen & Heath dealer Full Compass, arranged a dLive demo for the Salt Network’s Nathan Bong, production manager and Zach Kerns, technical director.
Bong and Kerns like the dLive’s future-focused technology, its included tools and the system’s flexibility within its architecture. Bong says new Salt Network churches will now start with a C2500 surface and DM0 MixRack which he describes as, “a cost-effective system that meets the needs of each church today and can grow with them as they expand over the years.”
Concerning the dLive at the Doxa Church, Westrum comments, “The dLive is super easy to train on and it has provided us with an infrastructure to grow. We are really excited about that. And, Rob Warren, our lead pastor, thinks the sound is phenomenal.”
