RCF Delivers Inside The New BOX Live Venue In The UK

Grade II-listed former bank building in Nottingham equipped with sound reinforcement provided by HDL 10-A active line arrays in an installation by Pro Technical (UK) Ltd. to serve an extensive schedule of entertainment and events.

BOX, a 650-capacity live entertainment venue and sports bar in Nottingham, England, recently opened in a Grade II-listed former bank building with sound reinforcement provided by RCF HDL 10-A active line arrays and supporting components installed by Pro Technical (UK) Ltd. to serve an extensive schedule of entertainment and events, including Thursday night “Bandeoke” sessions with a live band providing the backing track for all-comers taking the open microphone.

Mark Austin, head of bar operations for BOX developer ARC Inspirations, says, “Music and sound quality is utterly critical to a venue like this, as it sits at the heart of the guest experience that we create. This is a large, complex and historic building, and so our requirements of the system were demanding. We needed something absolutely brilliant, and that is what we’ve got – we couldn’t be happier with the results.”

The main system employs two hangs of two HDL 10-A active elements, with low-frequency extension delivered by low-profile S8015LP 15-inch subwoofers. Four more S8015LPs are distributed under fixed seating throughout the venue.

Pro Technical director Richard Anderson states, “When leading this element of the build with Arc, we chose RCF for the range of products needed to provide sound coverage and clarity in a Grade II-listed rotunda. HDL 10-As were deployed in this area to control the sound dispersion and minimize reflections.”

Meanwhile, the main bar area is outfitted with 10 RCF M 10 loudspeakers, with an additional 16 M 08 units deployed around the room, A further six M 06 complete the COMPACT series deployment, while a pair of S 12 bass reflex subwoofers boost low frequencies where required.

“We chose RCF because of its rich history in delivering high-quality audio and precision drivers, which have always proven to be reliable,” Anderson concludes. “Their different ranges of speaker solutions always provide us with the necessary tools to deliver optimum sound to our clients.”
