A recent renovation of Lumi Beach, located at the Umm Al Quwain Beach Hotel & Resort in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), includes an upgraded audio backbone implemented by Dubai-based integration firm PRO LAB that incorporates Powersoft amplification and the company’s Dynamic Music Distribution platform.
The beachfront venue, taking advantage of its year-round warm temperatures and sunshine, offers dining and leisure spaces as well as hosting DJs, sports competitions, weddings and other private events. PRO LAB implemented Powersoft Duecanali and Quattrocanali amplifiers to drive Martin Audio CDD8, CDD12 and CDD15 loudspeakers and a SX118 subwoofer to create an appropriate system to serve the acoustically challenging semi-outdoor space.
This is topped by the Dynamic Music Distribution platform, which provides integrators with the ability to scale up to four independent zones using the dynamic routing capabilities embedded in the amplifiers (two zones in the case of the Duecanali DSP+D).
Jan Tarakji, general manager of PRO LAB, explains that the Duecanali and Quattrocanali amplifiers were also chosen for compatibility with existing loudspeakers installed at Lumi Beach. “We recommended these models as they work perfectly with the previous set-up,” he says, “and have various pre-sets that match well with the rest of the system, enabling the customer to carry on using their existing speakers.”
The amplifiers were placed in an outdoor rack in the DJ area, near the dance floor, a location that presented a challenge that was addressed and rectified by the sound team. “Since the amplifiers were placed outside and on the seafront, the rack got filled with salt-like particles, which damaged the amps,” Tarakji notes. “Luckily it was able to be repaired, and Powersoft provided the spare parts free of charge.”
