Making The Word Heard—A Showcase Of Loudspeakers In Church Applications

Crown Pointe Church, Lee’s Summit, MO

Crown Pointe Church of the Assemblies of God, located in Lee’s Summit, MO, recently upgraded the sound system in its 500-seat sanctuary with QSC Audio KLA Fixed Arcuate Active line arrays joined by KW Series loudspeakers for out fill.

The upgraded components replaced an aging system that was no longer performing adequately nor achieving desired sound quality for the church’s contemporary worship services.

The new arrays each incorporate three KLA12 self-powered loudspeakers and two KLA181 single-18 active subwoofers.

One KW152 2-way trapezoidal cabinet was additionally installed on each side as out fill in order to extend coverage to the extreme left and right seating areas of the sanctuary.

System design and installation was provided by Advanced Sound & Communications based in nearby Kansas City.

“This was our first KLA install, but we already have a lot of great experience with QSC,” notes Richard Troutman, senior design consultant at Advanced Sound & Communications.

“We install a lot of QSC power amps and more and more QSC loudspeakers,” he continues. “When we demo’d the KLAs, we really liked the sound. For the bang for the buck, they just fit.”

Troutman adds that aesthetics were a key facet of the project. “Crown Pointe wanted the KLA181s flown because they were tired of looking at the big subwoofers they used to have on the ground,” he explains. “So we took the subwoofers up above the drop ceiling and put in some vented panels.”

Living Hope Church, Piperton, TN

Founded in 2006, the congregation of Living Hope Church recently realized a long-time goal of moving into its own building, with Elite Multimedia of Memphis, TN, tapped to consult on the project and acoustically design the main sanctuary. The fan-style worship space was designed by Elite’s BJ Shaver with d&b audiotechnik loudspeakers in mind.

“The church wanted high quality,” states Wade Russell, lead systems integrator on the project. “Consistency was very important. Consistency with a sound system ensures that everyone will have a full experience every time, no matter where they sit. d&b was the only company for the job.”

The system incorporates d&b T10 loudspeakers in arrays of six per side (left and right), joined by 4S loudspeakers for front fill, and one E12 loudspeaker handling center down fill.

Elite also implemented E15X-SUB single-15 subwoofers to enhance low frequencies in the space. A combination of d&b D6 and D12 amplifiers, including built-in processing, drive all loudspeakers.

Living Hope worship pastor David Lewis notes, “We’re thrilled with how it has turned out. The room design allows the sound system to shine. Worship in this space is certainly an intense experience. The clarity in the sound allows us to focus on the music and the praise. It allows us to focus on why we come to church.”
