Within days of the launch of DiGiCo’s SD10 console in 2010, Indian rental company Sound.com had invested in one, its first DiGiCo console.
Two years later, the desk is a regular fixture on events serviced by the company, the latest an orchestral tour celebrating the work of composer AR Rahman.
Purchased via DiGiCo’s Indian distributor Rivera International, the SD10 was the ideal product to give Sound.com the edge in the competitive Indian market.
“I always wanted to be a part of the DiGiCo family, but we wanted to invest in a product which is right at the beginning of its life and that would make us stand out as a genuinely different service provider in the Indian market,” says the company’s founder and managing director Warren D’Souza. “The technical requirements of events are getting ever-more complex, so the SD10 was ideally positioned for us. It was well worth waiting for.”
Primarily used for sporting events and broadcast, the console’s versatility was demonstrated on the Classical Incantations tour, which featured Germany’s Babelsburg Film Orchestra, (conducted by Matt Dunkley), performing scores and film music composed by Rahman and accompanied by the choir and soloists from his KM Music Conservatory in Chennai.
The tour played in venues across India, Sound.com’s Sunil Karanjikar and Joel Dcruz working alongside Front of House Engineer Holger Schwark, with Warren D’Souza acting as stand-in systems engineer for the Delhi & Kolkata shows.
“The SD10 desk was the key to defining the symphonic sound of the orchestra. The warmth and tone that it is capable of achieving can only be understood when you work in the field and experience the aura of it!” Warren continues. “Holger, the systems engineers and we as a company totally endorse it.”
