Concept Space In Singapore Selects K-array For Music Art Fusion

Canvas Nightclub & Creative Space in Singapore is a unique, multipurpose locale that functions as a gallery by day, inviting talented artists to exhibit their work to visitors, while by night the space transforms into a mainstay for club goers in the Upper Circular Road area.

Fusing together art collections with audio and making them complement one another was a challenge that K-array was prepared to take on.

“The launch of Canvas Singapore is really to showcase the flexibility that will be made available for artists to exhibit in. From installations and murals to short films and photography, we can demonstrate how much of a blank canvas the venue can be.” explained Canvas co-owner Mahen Nathan.

The sound system had to be capable of providing acoustics that wouldn’t distract from the artwork when the venue is in gallery or event mode, but also cater to the different styles of house, funk and techno mixed by Canvas’ resident DJs. “Music is still part of our DNA and so it is important for us to ensure that its presence helps to accentuate the art on exhibit.” said Roy Ng, co-owner of Canvas. “As well as being impressed with the sound of the K-array system, I also felt it was aesthetically pleasing in the venue.”

Because it is an intimate space, the option to fly the mid-hi speakers was necessary. A full-coverage solution was required from K-array: the main system comprises of four KH4 line array elements split evenly in all corners of the dance floor area and flown with a KS4 subwoofer directly behind each one. The KH4s produce a 120º horizontal coverage pattern and a 37º vertical coverage pattern and coupled with the KS4 dipole subwoofers, create a high performance large scale solution for Canvas. An additional two K070 subwoofers are in place to add even more punch to the system during live band performances.

A KF12 coaxial loudspeaker provides the fill for the VIP area of the room. Despite their ultra-compact size, the KF12s have an incredible reserve of power that produces high SPL across a wide coverage. One more KF12 is used as a DJ monitor. Outdoors the K-array equipment continues with four KK100 slim loudspeakers powered by two KL18ma subwoofers, providing coverage for the outdoor terrace overlooking the city’s river view.
