Avnu Alliance Creates New Membership Level For Time Sensitive Networking (TSN)

Organizations involved in TSN as well as other deterministic networking technologies and standards can now take an active role in Avnu Alliance Working Groups through the "Academic Organization/Research Institute" membership level.

The Avnu Alliance has announced a new membership level that allows research and academic institutions to actively contribute to the development of the Time Sensitive Networking (TSN) ecosystem.

Organizations involved in TSN as well as other deterministic networking technologies and standards can now take an active role in Avnu Alliance Working Groups through the “Academic Organization/Research Institute” membership level. This includes the development of high-priority use cases and features, and the creation of new test strategies, specifications and testbeds to demonstrate TSN technologies in real-life deployment scenarios. The new membership level also enables research and academic institutions to attend Plugfests held by the Avnu Alliance alongside general and annual members meetings.

“With the new membership level, the Avnu Alliance is opening the door to academic and research organizations to play a vital role in shaping the direction of TSN technologies,” says Dave Cavalcanti, Avnu Alliance president and chair of the Wireless TSN Working Group. “We hope with their added expertise and knowledge, the organizations entering Avnu at this level will help us to advance TSN technology development and drive broader adoption of TSN across a range of critical sectors.”

TSN refers to the family of standards outlined by the IEE.802.1 Task Group to ensure deterministic data delivery for time-sensitive traffic using standards-based general purpose connectivity technologies. From industrial automation to professional audio video and extended reality (XR) applications, reliable delivery of time-sensitive data is crucial to providing more precise user experiences. TSN has emerged as a fundamental toolbox to deliver time synchronization, bounded latency and greater reliability in converged networks.

Additional benefits of the new membership level include the ability to propose and chair new Working/Task Groups, access pre-released specifications and tools developed by the Avnu Alliance, as well as the members-only collaboration portal. Members at the “Academic Organization/Research Institute” level will also be able to obtain test tools for in-house testing at a reduced price to drive further development.
