Audix Introduces The CX Series Of Condenser Microphones At Winter NAMM 2011

The new microphones have been designed for the are live sound, broadcast, and home recording markets.

Audix has announced the introduction of the CX112B and CX212B, the most recent additions to the CX series of large diaphragm studio condenser microphones.

This series, which has a part of the Audix family for nearly 10 years, take advantage of the latest advancements in diaphragm materials, capsule technology and electronic circuitry components.

The upgrades offer improved performance in many areas, including improved sound quality, a lower noise floor, wider dynamic range, reduced handling and touch noise, and a more compact design.

The CX112B and CX212B are aimed at the home recording market as well as live sound and broadcast.

Both microphones feature a 35 mm capsule and a 27.5 mm (1.08”) gold vapor diaphragm mounted with a side-address design.

The CX112B, characterized with a single-sided diaphragm producing a cardioid polar pattern, also includes a bass roll-off filter and a 10 dB pad allowing for sound pressure levels of up to 145 dB.

The companion CX212B features a dual diaphragm design which enables multi-pattern operation: cardioid, omni-directional, and figure 8. Additionally, the CX112 includes a bass roll-off filter to help eliminate rumble and vibration.

While mainly recognized as vocal studio microphones, the CX112B and CX212B prove to be excellent for a wide variety of applications including guitar cabs, overheads, piano, stringed instruments, brass, woodwinds, and ambient room miking.

“It’s not often that a company can improve the design, performance AND the selling price of an existing product,” said Audix VP of Sales, Cliff Castle.”

“We are very excited at having accomplished this with the upgraded CX series mics, both of which are incredible tools for both studio and live sound.”

The Audix CX112B and CX212B both require 48 volts of phantom power for operation. The CX112B is packaged in a rosewood box with a hard mount clip while the CX212B comes in an aluminum carrying case and also includes a heavy duty acoustic suspension shock mount.

MSRP for the CX112B is $330 and MRSP for the CX212B is $425. CX112B Matched pairs are available in aluminum carrying case at MSRP of $740.
