Sonnet Technologies has announced the new Solo2.5G USB-C to 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet (2.5GbE) adapter that’s equipped with NBASE-T (multigigabit) Ethernet technology in adding 2.5GbE and Gigabit (GbE) network connectivity to an array of computers and iPad tablets.

Measuring 1.2 inches wide by 2.8 inches long by 0.6 inches tall, the fanless Solo2.5G is for Mac, Windows, Chromebook, and Linux computers and iPad tablets. Equipped with an RJ45 port plus link and activity LED indicators, the adapter supports 2.5GbE (aka 2.5GBASE-T) connectivity via common Cat 5e (or better) copper cabling at distances of up to 100 meters. The adapter’s 0.3-meter captive USB-C cable connects to a USB-C or Thunderbolt (Type-C) port on a computer or tablet and is bus-powered for convenient, energy-efficient, and portable operation.

It takes advantage of NBASE-T technology to offer users a more simple and less expensive option for adding faster network connectivity to computers and iPad tablets equipped with USB-C and Thunderbolt (Type-C) ports.

When used with a 2.5Gb Ethernet-capable switch, network-attached storage (NAS) device, or Wi-Fi router, the Sonnet adapter is stated to deliver performance at 250 percent the speed of Gigabit Ethernet without a wiring upgrade. When needed, it also supports 1Gbps link speed.

The Solo2.5G adapter (part number SOLO-NBASE-T) is available now from Sonnet and soon from its worldwide distribution and reseller partners at the suggested retail price of $24.99.
