Showcase: Enhanced Focus

The Ramsdell Pro Audio LTA Series offers a range of options. For example, the LTA 8-6 uses eight 6.5-inch cones joined by a 1.4-inch compression driver and can be easily combined with the company’s BP SD21 subwoofers in a portable package that’s fast to deploy and can cover a sizeable audience area. Dispersion is stated as 120 x 40 degrees (H x V).

Another model sharing this same design approach is the LTA 10-4 (four 10-inch cones). On the other hand, the LTA Compact 12 is loaded with a dozen 4-inch cones in a gently curved array, with a single 1-inch compression driver in the center.

Additional options include the LTA Compact 8 (eight 5.25-inch cones) and Compact 6 (six 4-inch cones). With these models, multiple arrays can be coupled vertically together for higher output and more pattern control of lower frequencies, and they can be used with several TL sub models.

The TRx3903 from Carvin Audio is an option for a range of applications, with columns sold separately or as part of multi-element packages that also include TRx3018A active subs that can serve as the mount structure for the full-range module(s). The TRx3903 is loaded with nine 3-inch drivers that provide stated 120-degree horizontal coverage. Proprietary CDD (Constant Delivery Dispersion) technology is designed to foster linear phase response from 160 Hz to 18 kHz with uniform projection.

The TRx3903’s 5-inch width, along with integrated top and bottom pole mounts, make for quick setup. An accessory short pole provides stacking, rigging and flying options, with accessory short speaker stands available for temporary or semi-permanent applications.

The CLA604A is the largest model in the FBT VERTUS CLA Series, a two-way, bi-amplified design with six 4-inch cones and four 1-inch dome tweeters on a waveguide. (The CLA406A has four 4-inch cones.) The onboard class D amplifier delivers a stated 400 watts to the cones and 100 watts to the tweeters, and it’s joined by DSP with four EQ presets. Frequency response is listed as 130 Hz to 20 kHz, and maximum SPL is 125 dB. A control panel provides volume, preset, high-pass filter, source switch, and more.

A latching system enables the extension of the height of arrays with the addition of more CLA604A modules, as well as the option to angle columns +/-30 degrees in the horizontal plane. The CLA 208SA (dual 8-inch) is the recommended companion sub.

The recently unveiled Turbosound iNSPIRE iP2000 is a modular system comprised of full-range columns and a companion 12-inch sub. Each column includes sixteen 2.75-inch cones plus a horn-loaded tweeter. Proprietary Klark Teknik SST (Spatial Sound Technology) helps in creating “enhanced 3D” acoustic environments as well as providing DSP presets for application type and loudspeaker positioning.

A 24-bit processor analyzes the incoming signal and applies specific filters, making real-time adjustments to the crossover, compressor/limiter, three class D amplifier channels, and more. Also onboard is a 3-channel digital mixer. The Turbo Control remote control app is available for iPhones and iPads. The iP2000 is the largest model in the iNSPIRE Series that also includes the smaller iP1000 and iP500 full-range columns.

The CBT 70J-1 is one of several models in the JBL Professional CBT Series, a two-way column with asymmetrical vertical coverage that extends coverage to further regions of the audience area. Proprietary Constant Beamwidth Technology is designed to enhance pattern control consistency, utilizing complex analog delay beam-forming and amplitude tapering to accomplish vertical coverage without narrow vertical “beaming” and out-of-coverage “lobing.”

It’s loaded with four 5-inch cones joined by sixteen 1-inch soft dome tweeters. Vertical pattern coverage is switchable between 45 degrees for medium-throw and 25 degrees for long-throw applications. Voicing is also switchable between flat response in music mode and mid-range presence peak in speech mode. Proprietary SonicGuard provides overload protection of HF devices.
