Martin Audio At The Heart Of New German-Themed Music Venue In The UK

Pro Technical (UK) chooses TORUS arrays and CDD coaxial loudspeakers to deliver coverage at large-scale beer hall at Albert's Schloss emporium in Birmingham.

The recently opened Albert’s Schloss emporium, an expansive German-themed entertainment venue in Birmingham, UK operated by the Mission Mars Group, has been equipped with audio systems by integrator Pro Technical (UK) Ltd. that utilize Martin Audio TOURUS constant curviture arrays and CDD compact loudspeakers.

This second unit in Birmingham (following the opening of the original venue in Manchester) is set on a large new-build footprint that’s part of the city’s Paradise Forum development. “These venues are solid entertainment venues,” explains Richard Anderson of Pro Technical. “Therefore they wanted a powerful array for the stage but also something that would fit within the budget. Martin Audio is a reputable brand and we have used CDD many times over the past ten years.”

TORUS arrays are deployed in support of the stage in the facility’s giant beer hall, which offers program of live bands, ranging from cabaret to full-on rock, seven nights a week, as well as DJs and background music during its all-day trading hours. Anderson mixed pairs of TORUS T1230 (30-degree vertical dispersion) and T1215 (15-degree vertical dispersion) arrays in stacks either side of the stage, with Martin Audio proprietary DISPLAY software optimization and manual horizontal dispersion adjustability helpting to providie tailored medium throw coverage across the width in front of the stage.

The low end is reinforced by four SX118 (single 18-inch) subwoofers set under the stage, with the 550-strong clientele further back down the hall covered in a sound field created by 24 CCD10 coaxial differential dispersion loudspeakers.

Upstairs is Ludwig’s Tavern, named after former Bavarian king Ludwig II, where customers can play shuffleboard. It takes a feed off the main system downstairs and also has its own independent DJ plug-in point. This is served by six CDD6 and a Martin Audio SX210 subwoofer.

The loudspeakers are powered by a combination of Martin Audio iKON iK42 and VIA5004 amplifiers, and was commissioned by Martin Audio’s Nigel Meddemmen, who also provided design support. “The client is ecstatic and we’re now looking forward to adopting a similar model in Liverpool,” concludes Anderson. This was backed up by Mission Mars Group proprerty director Godfrey Russell, who states, “The Martin Audio system has provided Alberts Schloss with a great sound; we are really happy with the result.”
