Ken DeLoria Named Senior Technical Editor For Live Sound International & ProSoundWeb

Brings a rich history of hands-on experience to the position, having worked in a wide range of roles in professional audio

Professional audio and production veteran Ken DeLoria has joined Live Sound International and ProSoundWeb.com as senior technical editor.

The appointment, effective immediately, was announced by Keith Clark, editor-in-chief of both publications, which are owned by EH Publishing.

DeLoria brings a rich history of hands-on experience to the position, having worked in a wide range of roles in professional audio.

He is the founder and former owner of Apogee Sound Inc., and for more than 30 years he designed pro audio products, including the world’s first intelligent power amplifier equipped with an embedded microcontroller (the Apogee DA-800), the TEC award winning Apogee AE-9 loudspeaker, and the innovative AE-2, AE-5 and SSM loudspeakers that dominated Broadway theatre for more than a decade, plus at least 50 other electronic and electro-acoustical products utilized by industry professionals throughout the world.

DeLoria has also mixed innumerable shows and tuned a plethora of sound systems with an emphasis on taming difficult acoustical environments – especially in live TV settings.

His credits include theatrical productions, the first two Super Bowls that utilized high-fidelity concert-style sound systems (Super Bowls XVII and XIX), the 1984 and 1996 Summer Olympics, three Democratic National Conventions, six consecutive Grammy and Oscar Awards, the 90th Anniversary of the Nobel Prize Awards, and more than 100 permanent systems in domestic and worldwide installations, including the Grand Mosque in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, which employs 325 computer-equipped Apogee amplifiers powering more than 5,000 loudspeakers.

After selling Apogee, DeLoria joined Digidesign as worldwide director of live sound to launch the highly successful VENUE digital console. He later served as product manager for Community Professional Loudspeakers.

DeLoria has been a regular contributor to LSI/PSW publications, most notably authoring a series of articles this year calling for greater awareness of the vital importance of safe rigging practices, as well as defining best rigging practices. He also recently toured as front of house sound engineer for Uriah Heep, and documents that experience in the October 2011 issue of Live Sound International as well as on ProSoundWeb (See Ken’s recent articles here.)

“Ken has done it all when it comes to professional audio and related disciplines,” states Clark. “It’s our great fortune to have someone with his talents and real-world acumen lending his insights and hard-earned experience to our efforts in serving our worldwide readership to the highest level possible.”

DeLoria notes, “After many years of working in research, development, manufacturing, and hands-on production, it’s a logical extension of my career to provide meaningful information to the worldwide readership of LSI/PSW. Keith’s invitation to become part of the family is an opportunity that I value with utmost respect. The content provided by LSI and PSW is the best of the best, and I will do all that I can to live up to their established standard.

DeLoria is the latest addition to the LSI/PSW editorial, joining senior contributing editor Craig Leerman, who has worked in a wide range of roles in professional audio for more than 25 years in a dynamic career that encompasses touring, theater, and live televised broadcast events. Currently Leerman owns and operates Tech Works, a regional production company based in Las Vegas that focuses on corporate events.

LSI this year marks its 20th anniversary as the leading journal for live event technology professionals. ProSoundWeb, now in its second decade as the industry’s premier online source for news, reference information, and interaction among members of the pro audio community, is dedicated to providing accurate, up-to-the-minute content that assists audio professionals worldwide in finding the best possible solutions to the challenges they face on a daily basis.
