JBL Professional Shipping 7 Series Master Reference Monitors

Both new models outfitted with new high-frequency transducers that extend HF response as well as high-excursion woofers to provide robust LF output

Harman’s JBL Professional announced that new 7 Series reference monitors are now shipping.

Both the model 708i (8-inch) and 705i (5-inch) are two-way designs incorporating a new miniature high-frequency transducer—the 2409H—with JBL’s low-mass, annular diaphragm design that provides high output with low distortion and frequency response to 36 kHz.

Both are also outfitted with newly designed high-excursion woofers to supply robust low-frequency output into the 30 Hz range and peak system output of 113 dB (708i) and 107 dB (705i).

A patent-pending Image Control Waveguide and a sophisticated dividing network work in concert to produce a transparent crossover transition, as well as detailed spatial imaging and neutral response, particularly in the dialog range.

Front-ported birch plywood install-ready enclosures include bottom and rear-panel mounting points. With a range of available mounting brackets, the placement of the monitors can be optimized to maintain sight lines to video displays.

To reduce enclosure size and installation cost, power is provided by Crown DCi 8|300N eight and four-channel power amplifiers. The 705i and 708i can be driven by a single amp channel or bi-amplified, and tuned for room-to-room consistency.

BSS Soundweb London signal processing can be networked with the amplifiers to provide down-mix, sophisticated bass management capabilities and a range of I/O options that include AES, Dante, and AVB. The system can be externally controlled using Harman HiQnet Audio Architect software, a hardware controller, or wireless tablet.

“The 7 Series is the result of extensive R&D and collaboration with our post and broadcast clients,” states Peter Chaikin, senior manager, JBL Professional Recording and Broadcast. “The system is receiving tremendous response and solving challenges in enterprise and boutique level facilities alike.”
