dBTechnologies Debuts VIO L210 Line Array At Prolight + Sound 2016

Active 2-way system designed for larger sound reinforcement applications; joined by new VIO S318 active subwoofer

At the Prolight + Sound show in Frankfurt, dBTechnologies has introduced VIO the L210, an active 2-way line array designed for larger sound reinforcement applications, as well as the VIO S318 active bass-reflex subwoofer.

Each VIO L210 array module incorporates 2 x 10-inch neodymium woofers and a titanium dome, 3-inch neodymium compression driver. The woofers, custom-designed to improve efficiency, are positioned in a V form and sealed in a bass reflex wooden enclosure.

The voice coils of the woofers, made of aluminum-coated copper, are designed to last in high-stress conditions while providing an accurate transient response and extended low-end reproduction. In addition, they have a custom impendance value in order to meet the needs of this specific system.

The single 3-inch voice coil compression driver (1.4-inch-exit throat) is designed to accurately deliver high frequencies. It’s attached to a newly designed waveguide that contributes to creating a cylindrical wavefront, fostering more precise directivity control, which also enhances the system’s throw distance.

The acoustic enclosure is completed by two large aluminum phase plugs located in front of both woofers. Their external surface is the prosecution of the constant directivity high-frequency waveguide. Each phase plug has 26 diamond-shaped holes aimed at reducing any interference between the two LF emission points while improving frequency and transient response.

Each VIO L210 module is driven by a class D Digipro G3 900-watt power amplifier. It’s also possible to connect up to 10 modules on a unique 220-volt line without affecting its performance. The amplifier is joined by advanced DSP, including FIR filters. The pre-amp is also equipped with a digital optical isolation which contributes to cleaner audio performance.

The VIO L210 comes with a built-in 3-point rigging system designed for smooth, fast set-up of arrays. The two front links easily connect the modules from every angle.

The back/central rigging strand is equipped with a hook-type link to set the relative splay angles determined via dBTechnologies Composer prediction software. While lifting up the array, the rigging strand will automatically block the systems at the preset angles. Splay angles can be set directly in the dedicated transport cart (DT-VIOL210), which houses four modules.

The dedicated flying frame (DRK 210) comes with two hooks to facilitate more precise inclination of the array. The frame can also serve as a groundstacking accessory to secure VIOL210 cabinets on a VIO S310 subwoofer, and when not in use, it can be fixed and stored on the top lid of DT-VIOL210 transport cart.

Also new is the VIO S318, an active, triple 18-inch-loaded subwoofer. The bass-reflex, half-horn-loaded woofers are configured to maximize frontal emission in extending lower frequencies, with the three voice coils aligned to enhance phase response.

The three onboard Digipro G3 amplifiers deliver a total of 2,700 watts of power. The system also incorporates an integrated delay module for achieving up to 9.9 milliseconds of delay with 0.5 ms steps. The crossover module sets the low-pass filter alongside the high-pass filter for an integrated crossover output.

The VIO S318 also offers an attenuation control, a polarity switch, and an RDnet port for remote control. The multiplex enclosure is protected with a durable polyurea finishing and is equipped with five handles per side. The dolly transport (DT-318) allows to transport up to thee subs simultaneously, on wheels or on lift track. As an alternative to the dolly, wheels can be mounted on the rear side of the cabinet.
