Covenant Church Life Centre Chooses L-Acoustics KIVA & KILO Loudspeakers

Two LA4 amplified controllers power and process the KIVA-KILO arrays, while a single LA8 drives the center array plus two SB28 subs located below for ample low end

With over 20,000 members spread out between five campuses in northeastern Texas, Covenant Church is a vibrant and growing house of worship network.

To help accommodate its growth, the church recently converted a K-12 school at its flagship location in Carrollton into a family-centric new facility known as the Life Centre, which is now home to an L-Acoustics KIVA-KILO loudspeaker system.

The new system went into the Life Centre’s AMP room, a former gymnasium transformed into a modern amphitheatre that hosts children’s church services, youth programs, college and career fellowship events, and many other functions.

Left and right arrays of five KIVA enclosures hung beneath two KILO low-frequency extension cabinets are positioned above the far edges of the stage with a five-KIVA array flown in between to facilitate stereo imaging. Two LA4 amplified controllers power and process the KIVA-KILO arrays, while a single LA8 drives the center array plus two SB28 subs located below for ample low end.

Covenant Church director of audio Gregg Dunham, along with the assistance of chief technical engineer Slade Goplin, ultimately chose the system and coordinated its installation.

“Both Slade and I have worked in the live sound industry for years and we’ve always had a tremendous appreciation for the sound quality and technology of L-Acoustics products,” says Dunham. “So when we were looking to equip the AMP room with a system, KIVA presented itself as an ideal high-impact, low-profile solution.

“I do have to confess, however, that I had some doubts when I first looked at the enclosure—it’s such a tiny system. But after we spent a day demoing an array at the L-Acoustics shop in California, we were sold. Small as it is, KIVA is truly a no-compromise box when it comes to quality and delivering impact—it blew us away both literally and figuratively!”

Dunham points out that the service they received from L-Acoustics was every bit on par with the excellence of the company’s products. “The system design that Dan Palmer created in SOUNDVISION was perfect for the room; he really understood what were trying to achieve and this system surpasses my expectations. I typically mix services over in Carrollton’s big main sanctuary, but I come over to the AMP room every now and then to see how things are going and it always sounds phenomenal. It’s almost a letdown to have to go back to the other room,” he laughs.

In addition to the KIVA-KILO system for the AMP room, Covenant Church purchased a quantity of self-powered 112P coaxial loudspeakers, which are deployed as needed for stage-fill and monitoring in the main sanctuary.
