A new sound reinforcement system for the HQ2 Beachclub at the Ocean Casino Resort on the Atlantic City Boardwalk to support global DJs, performers and celebrity appearances incorporates a variety of 1 SOUND loudspeakers, including the recently introduced Contour three-way point-source enclosure and SUB2112 subwoofer.
The 45,000-square-foot venue has six bungalows with private pools, 12 day beds, and more than 30 VIP sections on its lower and upper decks. Multi-platinum electronic music DJ trio Cheat Codes opened the season on the new system, and it’s also been utilized by DJs such as Tiesto and Steve Aoki.
The upgrade, implemented by Anthem Productions (Mt. Vernon, NY) addresses club management’s desire for a sound design delivering more even consistent coverage while eliminating the “slap back” reflections of the adjacent glass building. The pool area is surrounded by compact Tower LCC84 loudspeakers stated to provide 120-degree dispersion joined by cardioid cancellation of almost 20 dB at the rear. They’re joined by CSUB610 subwoofers measuring just 11 inches wide.
Meanwhile, the back bar is supported by wall-mounted CT28 loudspeakers and distributed SUB2112 subs. The VIP cabanas are covered with compact Cannon C5 and C6 loudspeakers and SUB310 subs, with the upper-level bar covered by additional C6s hanging as pendants.
The previously noted Contour CT28 enclosures are rigged at the DJ booth, and they were equipped by 1 SOUND with blue grilles that match the surrounding decor. Low-frequency response is supplied by more SUB2112s that incorporate a 21-inch woofer joined by dual 12-inch woofers. A CT28 and SUB2112 per side deliver DJ montoring.
“A while back, I told Lou [Mannarino, owner of 1 SOUND] that my favorite loudspeaker would be a horn-loaded design based around an 8-inch driver — fast forward and now he came up with a completely new take on utilizing that 8-inch driver,” says Angelo Poulos, CEO of Anthem Productions. “This speaker is insane, a monstrous amount of SPL, 1 SOUND’s signature clarity with no distortion, and in such a small box! I see myself choosing this speaker time and time again.”
All of the 1 SOUND loudspeakers are IP55 rated and salt water resistant, critial in this application because the club is located adjacent to the Atlantic ocean and is also subject to high winds.
