Universal Audio UAD Powered Plug-Ins Platform Expands To Laptop Market With UAD-2 SOLO/Laptop

Universal Audio has introduced the newest member of the UAD Powered Plug-In family, the UAD-2 SOLO/Laptop compact ExpressCard-based DSP Accelerator, which brings the company’s award-winning analog emulations to laptop users, whether in Cubase, Logic, Digital Performer, or Pro Tools. T

The UAD-2 SOLO/Laptop allows access to the full UAD Powered Plug-Ins library, without the need for external cabling or power.

Like all UAD-2 hardware, the SOLO/Laptop supports VST, AU and RTAS plug-in formats on both Mac and PC.

The UAD-2 SOLO/Laptop carries a MAP price of $499 U.S.

“Bringing UAD-2 Powered Plug-ins to laptop users is really part of our ongoing vision for expanding the UAD platform, which we’re proud to say is now 30,000 users strong,” commented Universal Audio President Matt Ward.

“Bill Putnam Jr. set out to take the best of classic analog equipment and bring it to the digital world — with all of the analog subtleties, intricacies and nuances intact. This level of authenticity simply requires more horsepower than today’s laptops can deliver. But with the SOLO/Laptop, users can plug in a simple ExpressCard and access our musically superior UAD plug-ins.”

Universal Audio also announced that its UAD Powered Plug-Ins Platform has surpassed 30,000 users worldwide, making it the second-largest audio plug-in processing platform in the world (second only to Digidesign’s TDM).

Since the launch of the original UAD-1 card in 2001, the UAD Powered Plug-Ins collection has steadily grown to include the most sonically revered processors from the past 50 years of audio — including authentic, licensed emulations from Neve, Roland, Moog, Fairchild, Pultec, SPL, Teletronix, and Universal Audio’s own 1176.

As a result, UAD Powered Plug-Ins have become the choice of numerous “A-list” record producers and Grammy-winning engineers, including Frank Filipetti (James Taylor, Paul Simon); Justin Niebank (Keith Urban, Taylor Swift, Rascal Flatts); Ryan West (Kanye West, T.I., T Pain); Chris Dugan (Green Day); Stuart Price (Madonna, The Killers, Seal); Matt Knobel (Lenny Kravitz, Ricky Martin); Vance Powell (White Stripes, Raconteurs); and Rik Simpson (Coldplay).
