Neill Ryan has a well-earned reputation in the UK as a notable songwriter and performer with his own band, as a solo performer and session player for many other artists.
Over the years Ryan has worked with many PA systems so when it came time to purchase his own rig he knew the features he was looking for – a compact system with premium audio quality and high output that meets the demands for a variety of venues.
Gareth Jones, who heads up distribution for On Point Audio in the UK, recommended that he try out the On Point Audio OPA 10-Active system. Ryan was extremely impressed and shortly thereafter purchased the system.
“It was a bit more expensive than I initially planned but worth every penny,” Ryan explains. “I can go out on my own with just the high packs, or if I’m traveling with the full band I can add the subs. Whatever the situation, these boxes move loads of air and provide incredible detail.”
The compact OPA 10 Active – roughly 22 x 11 x 14 inches – features a built-in, class-D amplifier that provides 2,000 watts of total system power. The included digital signal processing module offers a custom-tuned EQ, crossover and dynamics parameters that deliver maximum sound quality and output.
Each box is loaded with a 10-inch woofer with large-format 4-inch voice coil and ferrite magnet that delivers the sound quality and output of much larger drivers. The ND175 pure titanium compression driver is coupled with a 90 x 75 degree constant-directivity horn that is fully rotatable, thus allowing the system to be positioned horizontally or vertically to get the desired coverage.
A heavy-duty marine-grade plywood enclosure with wear resistant Polyurethane finish (PowerCoatTM) completes the package.
Jones adds, “This is a serious system that is gaining a lot of traction in the UK, especially with rental and installation contractors. Ryan has been amazed with the audience response. He is absolutely thrilled with his purchase.”
