By PSW Staff • July 15, 2009 NSCA’s latest Market Intelligence Briefing (MIB) report, Application Trends in the Commercial Electronics Systems Industry, provides an update and analysis of the changing marketplace and the best applications and technologies for the best markets. Review of this information allows system integrators to adjust business to the demands of the markets and technologies applicable to today’s customers. The first quarter MIB of 2007 detailed these markets, but this update compares the difference over the course of the past two years. An updated view of survey participants anticipated growth in both applications and venues provides great insight into the systems, technologies, and vertical markets of the near future. While the report shows that audio and video remain a top priority for integrators, the fastest growing technology segments lies within life-safety, communications (including nurse call) and data networking. Integrators are diversifying their work in order to meet market demands. More integrators were focused on a single application or technology whereas now integrators have to increase the number of applications and markets to purse a successful business venture. In addition, integrators were able to base their reputation mostly on AV applications, today, that reputation is based primarily on life-safety applications. Whatever applications and technologies integrators use, manufacturers are playing a significant role through their service and support to both integrators and consultants. While commercial and industrial markets remain the top priority, government/municipal as well as educational facilities are rising through the ranks of popular markets among the industry. This report also compares the technologies/applications and markets they are being used, providing integrators, designers, and consultants with up-to-date and relevant information to base business decisions. “This industry remains with its roots of AV, but it is evolving to become more system-centric,” said Chuck Wilson, NSCA executive director. “Our industry continues to become more sophisticated to meet the demands of the markets it works within. This provides the channel with resources for successful outcomes.” NSCA’s quarterly MIBs provide NSCA members with current data on key industry issues, complete with statistical results, interpretation, implications, market knowledge and implementation goals.
