The Passing Of Noted Mix Engineer & Entrepreneur Jack Maxson (1940-2016)

Co-founded top sound company Showco, mixed numerous legendary artists, also a founder of Vari*Lite

Noted mix engineer and production entepreneur John DeGolyer (Jack) Maxson, who founded (with business partner Rusty Brutsche) Showco, which became one of the top sound companies in the world, passed away in late October at the age of 76.

Showco’s client list included The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Sir Paul McCartney and Wings, James Taylor, and many others. Read about Showco’s and Maxson’s work with The Rolling Stones on tour in 1981 here.

Maxson also was a founder of Vari*Lite in the mid-1980s, which developed one of the first automated changeable color lighting systems for the stage. The company proved quite successful, including being honored with three Emmy Awards.

Learn more about the life of Jack Maxson here. The memorial service will be held at Saint Michael and All Angels Church, 8011 Douglas Ave., Dallas, on Wednesday, November 16 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Museum Of The American Railroad in Frisco, TX (link).
